Boarding School

Are we really desperate to send our kids to boarding schools at their tender age? Are we really doing this to help them or the other way around? As soon as they complete their UPSR, we are busy applying for boarding school and we are also the first person to get very excited when the application is successful. We try to justify this by saying that we are afraid that our kids would not be able to concentrate on their education and they would be easily influenced by other kids if they go to normal secondary school.

I remember, Kak Long was very unhappy on the first year at her boarding school, but we were adamant to make her stay there for her so call "future sake". Secretly we found out that she even accused us of no longer wanting her at our house.

Normally the kids are left on their own since both parents work during day time, thus boarding school is the ideal alternative. Does it mean that we fail to carry out our responsibility to look after and guide our kids to be good persons but instead transfer this responsibility to the boarding school? If that's the case, one of us, or the mother should be with them at home all the time. Then the question of our various financial commitments come into the picture. One parent at work and the other as a homemaker would limit our ability to serve endless hutang and other financial needs.

Hemmm.....it is such a vicious cycle........
